An interview with our young & talented midfielder, Rowen Muscat:by Jonathan Spiteri17/02/2010 Recently, a few days after our 2-1 win with Msida, we had the opportunity to ask a few questions to Rowen Muscat, who plays with the number 24 on his back and has deputised instead of the more experienced George Mallia since the latter’s injury with great success. This is what he had to say to us: You have won a regular place since George Mallia got injured. Have you always felt confident of being up to the task? I was always taught to believe in my own potential and coach Paul Zammit has believed that I can even show it on the pitch. I made a promise to myself that when I participate in a football game I have to give my 120% to all those people who have motivated me and believed that I can do it. Having a great potential but no confidence can be a setback. You have to build your confidence by believing that you are able to do it. Without confidence one can commit mistakes that will result in a bad game throughout, but if you are confident in yourself, when you make a mistake you just lift your head and learn from that mistake, that’s the only way that you can learn and improve yourself.
What kind of rapport do you have with Mr Zammit and your team mates, especially with the most experienced ones like George and Michael Galea? From the first day that I stepped in the dressing room, the coach, every staff member and all the players have helped me and taught me a lot of things, being more experienced than me. This helps a lot because in football, you can't be a one man team and I believe that we are competing for the first place today because of the great teamwork and effort that every player does for his team mates. This is one of the great results that our coach Paul Zammit has achieved in the last 7 months. George and Micheal, being the most experienced players, have too contributed greatly to unite the team together as we are. I go along quite well with these two key players and they are helping me develop in my career. Having this opportunity I would like to thank the Coach, all staff and the players for all their support. Taking our last game into consideration (Birkirkara-Msida 2-1), are you able to tell us why our team was poor in the first half and much better in the second period? Do you think this is becoming a trend? In a 90 minute game even a good team cannot be dominant from the first minute till the last one. I think that with this spirit of teamwork that exists within our team, when things are going wrong we are strong enough to get out of that situation. A fair example of such is the game we played against Msida. How far do you believe can this team go this season? Even though we have a short bench, with our players and our union we can expect to achieve either the first or second place. How important is our support for you? Would you like to send an appeal to the supporters in general? The support is one of the most important things to any football team. Supporters keep your moral high and it helps you get in to the mind frame needed for the game. We don't play the best football in Malta for ourselves. It is our passion to make you smile and have you leaving the stadium with a good feeling. I would like to say a big thanks to all our supporters because your encouragement contributes a lot towards out performance and would even like to extend my thanks for those times when you still stay behind our backs even though the game is not inclined towards our favour. We would like to thank Rowen Muscat for sparing some of his time with us, and we would like to congratulate him for his good and consistent performances. KEEP IT UP!! |
